Bauhaus - in Weimar was the beginning

In 2019 the Bauhaus will be 100 years old.
The Bauhaus was founded in 1919 in Weimar by Walter Gropius. Its precursor was Henry van de Velde’s School of Applied Arts. Here the style of modernity found forms and application in creative design and architecture as well as in art, setting epoch-making trends.

Until his move to Dessau in 1925, the masters and students of the Bauhaus left many impressive traces here and in the vicinity. Significant remnants can still be seen in the main building of the Bauhaus University, which is only a short walk from HOTEL FÜRSTENHOF AM BAUHAUS WEIMAR.
The first house in the Bauhaus style by Georg Muche, the "Haus am Horn", and many fascinating exhibits of the Bauhaus are on display at the Bauhaus Museum opposite the Theatre.

In the nearby cities of Erfurt and Jena the ideas of the Bauhaus fell on fertile ground and in the 20's and 30's numerous residential and commercial buildings were built in this style.
